ADIEU SYNOPSIS

Adieu follows the journey of Anja, a talented violinist in Switzerland entangled in the ruthless world of the orchestra, whose life is rocked one morning by the sudden news of her sister Liane’s suicide. The aftermath exposes the dysfunctional dynamics in her family and leaves Anja desperately seeking answers to make sense of her sister’s death.

In her pursuit of the truth, Anja is torn between two worlds: her own disciplined world of classical symphony orchestra and Liane’s tantalizing world of expressive heavy metal music. The girls’ father Jürgen, also devastated by the loss of Liane, yearns to restore his broken relationship with his remaining daughter. The two, along with Anja’s self-absorbed mother and an insightful, empathetic friend, are forced to grapple with the truth of their shortcomings in the revelation of dark family secrets, causing Anja to question her sanity in the effort to survive life’s new normal.

MENTAL HEALTH
IN FILM

A story addressing the growing mental health crisis

Over the last two decades, suicide rates have been steadily increasing across the globe. No community has been immune. Multiple scientific studies have shown that movies can play a major role in influencing mental health, either positively or negatively.

Developed through years of in-depth research and written with guidance from mental health professionals, Adieu endeavors to identify with those who feel isolated and are sinking in despair. The story is designed to validate the real pain experienced by those who feel oppressed and are battling depression. Adieu also highlights the viable keys of perseverance, trust, and compassionate listening.

The themes of forgiveness and reconciliation play significant roles in modeling paths to healing and wholeness. Adieu strives to leverage the incredible power of film to make a lasting, positive impact on people desperate for hope.
